Meet Dr. Liu


Pioneering Myopia Control, Clinician, Researcher, Educator, and Global Vision Advocate

Dr. Liu is an associate professor at the UC Berkeley School of Optometry. She is the founder and chief of the Myopia Control Clinic of UC Berkeley Eye Center- the first of its kind in a teaching clinic, which now serves as a model for optometry schools across the country.

Where I’m from?

Originally from Beijing, I graduated from Peking University and practiced as an ophthalmologist in China before relocating to the United States.

My expertise

The emphasis of my research and clinical expertise has been on the investigation and utilization of novel optical designs and pharmaceuticals in myopia control, and I enjoy a global reputation in the field.


My training background

I obtained 4 graduate degrees in addition to my medical training in China: MBA in financial management; accelerated OD at Pacific University, College of Optometry; MPH (emphasis in biostatistics and clinical study design) and a PhD in physiological optics at UC Berkeley.

What topics I teach

I enjoy teaching both in didactic and clinical settings. I have years of experience in teaching basic and clinical pharmacology, specialty contact lenses, ocular disease, and evidence-based optometry.

What I do for fun

When not at work, I love cooking spicy food, swimming, doing HIIT, and spending time with her family, including her two Corgis QQ and Pi.

Meet Dr. Jung


Dedicated Clinician, Talented Researcher, & Enthusiastic Educator

Dr. Liandra Jung is a residency trained Optometric Physician who has wide-range eye care experience, working as a research optometrist leading clinical studies in the field of myopia, as a private practice optometrist serving myopic children in the Silicon Valley

Where I’m from?

Originally from Beijing, I graduated from Peking University and practiced as an ophthalmologist in China before relocating to the United States.

My professional background

During my residency, I gained extensive experience in managing complex ocular diseases and challenging pediatric myopia cases. In addition to my roles in clinical teaching and patient care, I am deeply involved in clinical myopia research, focusing on the safety and efficacy of innovative myopia interventions.


What topics I teach

I work with residents and student clinicians in specialty contact lens and myopia control clinics.

What I do for fun

When not at work, I love cooking spicy food, swimming, doing HIIT, and spending time with her family, including her two Corgis QQ and Pi.

Job Responsibilities

  • Greeting and welcoming patients as they arrive at the clinic.
  • Assisting patients with filling out necessary forms and paperwork.
  • Scheduling appointments and managing the clinic’s appointment calendar.
  • Answering phone calls and addressing patients’ inquiries with professionalism and courtesy.
  • Preparing examination rooms for patients and assisting the optometrist during eye examinations.
  • Conducting preliminary eye tests and measurements.
  • Educating patients on contact lens usage, care, and proper hygiene practices.
  • Managing inventory and assisting with ordering eyewear and contact lenses.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized clinic environment.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a healthcare or customer service setting is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Comfortable working with children
  • Detail-oriented and ability to multitask effectively.
  • Friendly and professional demeanor with a focus on patient care.
  • Mandarin-speaking is a plus
